THE MAGIC AWAITING IN TROPICAL NORTH QUEENSLAND
In this week’s special instalment of My Way, narrator Tim Blackwell takes viewers to Cairns in tropical Far North Queensland, showcasing the incredible experiences and natural beauty waiting on our doorstep when it’s safe to travel again.
We meet Danny Moore, owner of the Prawn Star, an old fishing trawler turned into a restaurant – a must-visit on any holiday bucket list, with seafood served straight off the deck. This floating restaurant’s initial success was as a takeaway, which Danny and his family have returned to during the COVID-19 dining restrictions.
Juan Walker has a passion for sharing the knowledge and teaching of his ancestral lands. He’s from one of the five Kuku Yalanji clans who originated in the rainforest regions of FNQ. While no visitors are allowed in at the moment, they’ll be inspired by the stories of the ancient hunting grounds to reconnect when it is safe to travel.
Bram Collins grew up in one of the most unique parts of Australia, the Undara Lava Tubes nestled in the Gulf Savannah country. Part of the fifth-generation of the pioneering Collins family, Bram educates visitors, unveiling the vast range of flora, fauna and rich history of Undara.
Then we meet Phil Waring, who is proud to have a thriving ecosystem on his doorstep. Phil guides us through the Barron River and the pristine Daintree, a World Heritage area. He makes a point of being a tourist in his own backyard and looks forward to sharing the natural wonders surrounding him with holidaymakers in the future.
