People keep asking me when I’ll return to television. The simple answer is life is pretty bloody good at the moment after 25 years in the industry working my finger to the bone. But now I have a brand new project I’d like to tell you about.
There is an adrenalin rush I miss about not making a daily TV show but I do not miss having to justify every decision, even when delivering high ratings. Now, together with some amazing people, I will get to share my own content direct to anyone who might be interested in hearing what we have to say.
I’ve joined forces with Ben Norris and David Robinson to create a new show called The Ben, Rob & Robbo Show, which will be available on our social media sites and Ticker TV every Monday to Thursday at 1pm, starting April 20.
Regular contributors to the show will include Sam Dastyari, Jo Casamento, Bruno Bouchet and Steve Molk.
Below is the press release which contains more information about what you can expect. I’m really exited about this and hope you will take a look on Monday 20.4.20!
MEDIA EXECUTIVE READY TO CHANGE THE WAY WE WATCH TV
Media executive Rob McKnight is launching a new show that will reshape the way we get news and information.
WT? In this climate? Yeah, radical, eh?
McKnight, host and co-creator of TV Blackbox, founding executive producer of Studio 10 and prior to that Channels 7, 9, 10 and Disney during a 25-year career says, “now is the time to get quality information, presented both straight and not, streamed directly into our social media feeds”.
“We’re launching a show that falls outside of the traditional broadcast restrictions – we can talk about anything and bring real opinions without fear of angry executives” says McKnight.
The Ben, Rob & Robbo Show brings McKnight plus Big Brother winner Ben Norris and much-loved journalist David “Robbo” Robinson together for a daily, Australia-centric show that will be viewed around the world.
Streaming live at 1pm Monday to Thursday on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, this original production will also air on Ticker TV, Australia’s premiere streaming news service.
Ticker CEO Ahron Young says:
“We are extremely excited by this new show. Rob and the crew have a whole lot of passion for media. Like many TV nerds, I’ve found his podcast to be essential listening, and now he’s kicking off a brand new show with the same energy and excitement – and we’re proud to have it on Ticker.”
“It’s the perfect time to be shaking up the TV industry – and fun, informative and entertaining content is what we all need a good dose of right now.”
Recently McKnight launched the now hugely successful TV Blackbox podcast and website along with Kevin Perry and Steve Molk. The website has become the destination for people in the industry to get the latest news on what’s happening. TV Blackbox stories are regularly picked up by other outlets.
The TV Blackbox podcast has amassed a huge following with multiple exclusive stories broken weekly. The podcast is a source for other entertainment and news websites looking for information about the television industry, both on and off air.
Now McKnight is taking this TV Blackbox mindset, adding his renowned skill to marry zany and serious and joining forces with Ben Norris and David Robinson to bring their combined production and content savvy know-how to a broad range of topics, in video format, to a brand new diverse and socially-isolating audience.
David Robinson has a long history in the television industry. For five years he was a daily fixture on Studio 10 bringing viewers entertaining reports and facing off with Ita Buttrose, Sarah Harris, Joe Hildebrand and Jessica Rowe in discussions on hot topics of the day. His departure from Studio 10 broke viewers’ hearts.
Thrilled to be at the forefront of format and content delivery; Robinson says:
“This show is going to be something very different and I’m extremely excited to be a part of it. It’s the future of broadcasting and I can’t wait.”
Since finding fame after winning Big Brother on Channel 9, Benjamin Norris has remained in the spotlight by hosting a #1 breakfast radio show for the HIT Network and is a sought-after guest on shows like You Can’t Ask That, Hughsey We Have A Problem and many more. Norris has also won over production insiders for his keen knowledge of the TV industry and political discussions. Norris proposed to his boyfriend live on national television and became a vocal voice for marriage equality in this country.
“From the moment I met, Rob and Robbo I knew the chemistry was worth sharing with the world. Individually we have all been told to tone it down in our careers and now we have no reason to. This is something bold and informative with a side of humour and in my mind, that’s what’s missing from the current landscape of TV and radio” says Ben.
‘I don’t know who will throw the first tantrum but I’ll bet it won’t be me.”
The Ben, Rob & Robbo Show will offer unique conversations and topics not necessarily covered by conventional media. In many ways the cast represent a cross section of society with backgrounds from housing commission to celebrity families. These opinions are real, honest and raw.
“I think what you’ll find is a discussion you won’t see on television that will be compelling, engaging and sometimes enraging” says McKnight.
Famous faces will also be making regular appearances on the program in feature interviews and regular segments.
The Ben, Rob & Robbo Show will stream through the TV Blackbox social media feeds and on Ticker TV Monday to Thursday from 1pm – 2pm from Monday 20 April 2020.
