All the excitement of one of Australian racing’s biggest days will unfold LIVE and FREE on Seven this Saturday, when day one of The Championships kicks off at Royal Randwick with a quartet of prestigious Group 1 races.
The action at Randwick will be headlined by one of Australia’s feature 1600m races, the $1.5 million Doncaster Mile, which shapes as wide-open contest between a quality field including Brandenburg, Super Seth and Melody Belle. Master trainer Chris Waller has a remarkable eight runners in the race including Mister Sea Wolf, Shared Ambition and Imaging.
In the $1.25 million TJ Smith Stakes, star sprinters Nature Strip, Bivouac, Santa Ana Lane and Loving Gaby are again set to square off.
And the Australian Derby (2400m) will feature the best three-year-old stayers including Castelvecchio, Shadow Hero and Warning, while Randwick’s championship race for two-year-olds, the Inglis Sires’ (1400m), looms as a battle between Mamaragan, Prague, Aim and Ole Kirk.
Seven will also bring viewers all the action from the nine-race card at Caulfield.
Jason Richardson will host Seven’s coverage on Saturday, Caulfield trainer Henry Dwyer and Victorian jockey Chris Symons will provide expert comments, while Rosehill trainer Richard Freedman will be on track for previews and interviews. Bruce McAvaney, Emily Bosson, Katelyn Mallyon and Corey Brown will provide insights through the day from their living rooms.
