The AFL returned last night – well a weird version of AFL featuring no crowds, no atmosphere, and shorter quarters returned last night.

Richmond vs Carlton might be the traditional opener for the season, but that was about the only thing that felt traditional about the game.

TV ratings for the contest were 798 000 metro viewers.

The result compares with last years season opener metro audience of 728,000 viewers. The 2019 figure was the best opening result for the AFL since 2012.
