One of the first evictions on Channel 7’s rebooted BIG BROTHER has been thrown into chaos when someone forgot to hit ‘RECORD’.

The major mistake happened when a known identity was evicted from the house. Events were supposed to be recorded on an EVS, an industry tool used for recording multiple sources at once – basically it’s like a digital video recorder

TV Blackbox understands producers have made the unprecedented decision to reshoot the eviction, meaning the evicted housemate will be placed back into the house and evicted again.

According to Careers in Screen;

The EVS role is highly skilled, and requires not only the complete technical mastery of the system, but also a cool head that means an operator does not struggle to deal with unforeseen problems during live broadcasts.

Channel 7 has been contacted for comment.

Channel 7 went on the offensive yesterday in a bid to quell concerns of family members of the housemates who are worried about contamination of the Coronavirus. Their concerns stemmed from a report by TV Blackbox about a change in production techniques which sees production crew enter the house during Survivor-style challenges.

Host Sonia Kruger appeared on the Sunrise program to downplay contamination issues but did not directly confront the production techniques raised by this website, only saying;

“We’re making sure, obviously, that there’s space between those cameras etcetera, they’re distanced from the housemates. There’s a wall in-between them.

While the statement is correct in that there are walls in between the cast and crew during normal production the statement by Kruger does not address the challenges where crews are inside the house. Presumably steps will be take to keep distance between cast and crew now during those challenges.

  1. "The EVS role is highly skilled … " yes, well that quote is about the EVS in its role as a replay device in fast-moving live sport outside broadcasts. The operator in this case just had to hit the record button – not exactly "skilled" …

  3. The EVS is a multi-channel record/playback server, which has no ‘Record’ button, as it automatically records continuously when the system is started. There are multiple EVS servers used in Big Brother for comprehensive coverage of all areas within the House, including redundancy for the main programme outputs.More likely a camera failure during the eviction show.

    • Take your point about the ‘RECORD’ button, but it was the easiest way to explain it.

      My sources have confirmed the issue was with the EVS.
