It was the viral video that made a little bullied boy famous but the family of QUADEN BAYLES have turned down money and fame to give back to their own community.

National Indigenous Television (NITV) has announced a world exclusive interview with Quaden which will air at 9.30pm tonight. Speaking for the first time since the Facebook post incited backlash and online hate Jodan Perry sits down with Yarraka, Quaden and his older sister Guyala to reflect on a whirlwind fortnight and their desire to put the focus back on the issues that matter most to them and their community: bullying, youth suicide and the plight of Australia’s First Peoples.

But TV Blackbox can reveal the Bayles family was approached by US TV show Ellen and several others, including a UK morning TV show, for the exclusive interview – all of which they declined.

Instead, they have given the interview to NITV as sources tell us;

“That’s how much they value their own culture”

The family has also turned down the offer of a free trip to Disneyland and have not made any money from their new found fame – by choice.

According to NITV during the 30-minute special, Yarraka reveals what was going through her mind when she made the heartbreaking video, including the confronting moment that shows Quaden saying he wanted to take his own life.

“At that time of recording, I just felt hopeless,” she tells Jodan. “I felt really and truly hopeless. Like, what is it going to take for me to lose my son before anything happens? I can’t do that. I’m not going to wait.”

The Point: The Bayles Family Respond is an extended interview program following the premiere of the new season of The Point tonight (Wednesday March 4 at 9.30pm) on NITV.
