Changes are occurring at Nine Melbourne with confirmation Managing Director, Matt Scriven is set to depart. While the network has made new appointments for its AFL coverage.

Scriven leaves the role after two years as Managing Director, and 15 years at Nine. Details on his replacement are yet to be confirmed.

In a note to staff yesterday, Scriven confirmed his resignation was due to a desire to spend more time with family, the move allowing his wife Nickee more time to focus on her role as CEO of Zenith.

”As you know, our business has undergone extraordinary transformation and change as we embarked on creating a media business of the future. The last 12 months has seen this vision come to life with the successful integration and relocation of The Age and AFR into Docklands to create a new Nine Melbourne.

And this will continue to evolve with Nine Radio, following the completion of the acquisition of Macquarie Media, enabling the opportunity for 3AW to relocate and integrate into Nine Melbourne.”

“I am going to miss the amazing people that I have had the privilege of leading and working with over the years, but equally I am excited by the opportunity to pause, reassess and pursue other business interests; while ensuring our kids have the support they need through their teenage years.”

Scriven will depart Nine on Feb 14.

Meanwhile, Nine has confirmed the appointment of Matt Conway as AFL Executive Producer.

Conway has been a member of the Nine News team since 2010 as a producer of the 6pm News bulletin in Melbourne, and has played an important role in the networks Australian Open coverage over the last two years.

Confirming the appointment, Director of Sport Brent Williams told staff yesterday;

”Matt’s new role will see him work closely with Nine’s print, radio and digital platforms to drive our “Footy on Nine” brand. He will take responsibility for all of our AFL productions and content including The Sunday Footy Show and Footy Classified, along with a suite of additional digital programming to be launched this season.

I’m also pleased to announce the appointment of Mitchell Jones to the role of AFL Digital Producer. Mitch is no stranger to Nine having previously been involved with the AFL Footy Show as social producer and has worked at the North Melbourne football club in their digital department.

Mitch will be charged with developing and producing AFL programming and content that will live on our digital platforms.”

The changes come after TV Blackbox yesterday published details of changes at Footy Classified which will see Eddie McGuire host a new Wedneday edition with Ross Lyon, Caroline Wilson and Matthew Lloyd. The Monday edition will be hosted by Craig Hutchison with Caroline Wilson, Matthew Lloyd and Kane Cornes.
