NRL Round 23 guide has a Rabbitohs must win to have any hopes for the finals

Source: Nine

Two mouth-watering match-ups highlight NRL on Nine’s Round 23 this Friday and Sunday, with heavy implications hanging on each.

But first tonight on Macca’s Thursday Night Footy, the finals-bound Eels face a tough challenge from the giantkilling Bulldogs at Bankwest Stadium.

Parramatta’s human wrecking ball, Junior Paulo, returns from injury, and after winning four on the trot, halfback Mitchell Moses needs to keep leading the team around with the class he has shown throughout the season.

The Bulldogs will be searching for their fourth win in a row after keeping the Rabbitohs tryless in a brilliant win last week. Injury-plagued five-eighth Kieran Foran has found form alongside halfback Lachlan Lewis in a lineup unchanged by coach Dean Pay.

VB Friday Night Footy features a grudge match of epic proportions as the Broncos look for revenge against the Rabbitohs in Brisbane, after going down 38-6 to Wayne Bennett’s charges earlier in the season.

Having won four of their last five, the Broncos are looking to cement a top eight spot in front of a packed house. After losing stars Jake Turpin and Tevita Pangai Jr to suspension, all eyes will be on the explosive Payne Haas following his match-winning heroics in Round 22.

The Rabbitohs are in a hole after losing three in a row and must win to have any hope of claiming a top four spot. With Sam and Tom Burgess out and Adam Reynolds carrying a niggling injury, Cody Walker needs to rekindle his great early season form to spark a victory for the Bunnies.

The Dragons face a litmus test on Macca’s Saturday Night Footy when they face the in-form Sydney Roosters, who have been racking up big scores.

While they will miss out on the finals, this game features some tantalising match-ups, with Gareth Widdop marking Chooks five-eighth Luke Keary, and workhorse prop James Graham squaring off with Kiwi big man Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

A win for the Roosters would go a long way to locking down a top two finish – a goal aided by the return of rep forward Siosiua Taukeiaho.

Chemist Warehouse Sunday Footy is a crucial clash between the Raiders and Sea Eagles, with top four positions on the line.

The Raiders will be playing at home in Canberra following their astonishing victory in Melbourne, in front of what is likely to be a sellout crowd.

Prop Josh Papalii gets better every week for the Green Machine, and he will savour facing off with Jake Trbojevic and Co, while Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and the Sea Eagles’ Tom Trbojevic line up in a clash between two fullbacks who are the epitome of excitement.

Manly will look to Maroons Origin halfback and captain Daly Cherry-Evans to silence the Canberra crowd with his mastery and lead his side to victory.
