As all was revealed and Secrets Week came to a halt on MasterChef Australia tonight, Perth pescatarian and soon to be father-of-three Kyle Lyons has been eliminated from the kitchen, making it home just in time for the birth of his twin girls.
Picking themselves up after losing yesterday’s Nonna Service Challenge, Kyle battled alongside Steph, Christina, Walleed, Simon, Larissa, Joe and Ben in a blind tasting. After incorrectly guessing the flavour of a black sesame macaron, Kyle was forced to cook for his place in round two alongside Simon and Ben.
In round two, the boys were able to cook whatever they like – be it savoury or sweet. As the judges tasted blind to team with the Secrets Week theme, the floor was left to mentor Poh Ling Yeow to run as Kyle whipped up a tamarind, apple and miso glazed pork with corn emulsion, mushrooms and pumpkin.
Despite not being one to put pork on his fork due to being a pescatarian, Kyle was hopeful his pork would turn tender in time in the pressure cooker. Kyle was disappointed when it didn’t land, and the judges said it wasn’t a great dish. The pork was chewy and the strange sweet buttery emulsion didn’t do anything for the plate.
George Calombaris said it was a shame it was clear whoever had plated this dish had simply run out of time, as Kyle became the ninth contestant eliminated from the MasterChef kitchen.
Since leaving the MasterChef kitchen, Kyle has begun work on a menu for the brewery and completed work experience at Cook & Mason. He made it home in time for the birth of his twin girls Pippa and Rosie.
