ABC congratulates 2019 Logie nominees

Showcasing a diverse and extensive list of nominations

The ABC congratulates its nominees in this year’s 61st TV Week Logie Awards, with a bumper 44 nominations spanning drama, comedy, children’s, factual, sports and current affairs programs. The sheer scale of nominations is truly remarkable, up more than 50% from 2018, and includes two Gold Logie nominations.

Michael Carrington, Acting Director Entertainment & Specialist, said: “Congratulations to our Logie Awards nominees across the ABC for their hard work and dedication, in front of and behind the camera. Our 44 nominations highlight the depth and diversity of home-grown talent on show at the ABC across multiple genres. Best of luck to the ever-entertaining Costa and Tom and to all our nominees. No broadcaster backs Australian stories more than the ABC.”

Leading the charge is award-winning drama series, Mystery Road, with eight nominations including the Most Popular and Most Outstanding Drama Program categories.  Further nods go to Aaron Pedersen (Most Popular and Most Outstanding Actor), Judy Davis (Most Outstanding Actress), Deborah Mailman (Most Popular Actress) Wayne Blair (Most Outstanding Supporting Actor) and Tasia Zalar (Most Popular New Talent). The Cry received nominations for Jenna Coleman (Most Popular and Most Outstanding Actress) and Asher Keddie (Most Popular Actress, Most Outstanding Supporting Actress), alongside Guy Pearce (Most Popular Actor) and Marta Dusseldorp (Most Popular Actress) for their work in Jack Irish.

Excitingly, the ABC scores two Gold Logie nominations; Costa Georgiadis is nominated for his work in flagship ABC program Gardening Australia and Tom Gleeson is nominated for hosting fan favorite Hard Quiz and his role on The Weekly With Charlie Pickering. Both appear in the Most Popular Presenter category.

Tom Gleeson said: “I can’t wait to fulfil my destiny by winning the Gold Logie. The ABC hasn’t won the Gold since 1976. A vote for me is a vote for the ABC. Voting re-opens June 24. GLEESON 4 GOLD.”

Costa Georgiadis said: “This is a great day for Gardening Australia, ABC and gardeners of all ages.  The birds are singing, the bees are buzz’n, the worms are wrigglin’ and the gnomes are a dance’n.  ABC’s Gardening Australia has been the go-to fertiliser of inspiration for 30 years.  What a birthday gift!  Let’s Grow For Gold.”

The ABC’s crucial role in journalism and public affairs has been recognised through nominations that span Most Popular and Outstanding categories; with Four Corners, Australian Story and 7.30 all in the running for statues. Caro Meldrum Hanna’s three-part investigation, Exposed: The Case of Keli Lane is nominated for Most Outstanding Factual or Documentary Program, alongside the multi-award winning series Employable Me.

The ABC’s commitment to quality, local comedy continues to shine, with Rosehaven and Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell nominated for Most Popular Comedy Program. The stars of Rosehaven, Luke McGregor (Most Popular Actor) and Celia Pacquola (Most Popular Actress) have also been recognised with nominations for their third successive year.

In the Most Popular Entertainment Program category the ABC received three nominations; Anh’s Brush with Fame (which is nominated for its fourth successive year), Gruen and Hard Quiz. Back In Time for Dinner and Gardening Australia are both nominated in the Most Popular Lifestyle category.

ABC Children’s scored three nominations in the Most Outstanding Children's Program category with smash hit new series Bluey nominated, along with further nods to Mustangs FC and Teenage Boss.

The ABC’s coverage of Invictus Games Sydney 2018 – which brought together communities across Australia to celebrate the strength and spirit of our wounded, injured or ill servicemen and women – has been nominated for Most Outstanding Sports Coverage.

The TV Week Logie Awards will take place on Sunday June 30th, from the Gold Coast.
