Holly Throsby’s best-selling debut novel GOODWOOD in development

Australian Broadcasting Corporation alongside ABC Studios International, today announced Holly Throsby’s best-selling debut novel GOODWOOD is in development for a series.

Written by Alison Bell and Sarah Scheller, the team behind the ABC’s hit comedy, THE LETDOWN, Goodwood will mark their much-anticipated debut into hour-long drama. The series will be produced by Alice Bell (in a confusion of names) and Claudia Karvan, with Imogen Banks executive producing under her Endemol Shine Banks banner. Sally Riley at ABC and Keli Lee at ABC Studios International round out the Executive Producers (they previously teamed up for HARROW on ABC).

Told with sophisticated charm, Goodwood is part mystery, part coming-of-age-love-story, set in a small town which is torn apart when two of its residents go missing. Goodwood is rich in character and complexity and filled with humour, both droll and tender. Author Holly Throsby says: “One of the central themes of Goodwood is the relationships between people, especially between strong women. It is so fitting, and an absolute dream for me, to have such an incredible group of women in charge of bringing my book to life on screen.”

Alice Bell is currently based in LA where she is writing THE EXPATRIATES, an Amazon Prime Original series produced by Nicole Kidman. GOODWOOD reunites Alice with Imogen Banks – their previous collaborations include PUBERTY BLUES, OFFSPRING and THE BEAUTIFUL LIE. Most recently they ran the Smart For A Girl initiative for Screen Australia’s Gender Matters program, mentoring emerging female screenwriters. Alice Bell says: "Holly has a knack for storytelling that lends itself perfectly to television and I’m excited to work alongside Sarah and Alison in realising their own version of Goodwood. Claudia and Imogen are my collaborative dream team and we are grateful to have the dedicated support of the ABC and ABC Studios International”.

Claudia Karvan, who worked with Bell and Banks on PUBERTY BLUES, recently departed DOCTOR DOCTOR after successfully steering it to success over the first three series. Karvan says: “The Goodwood production has so many of my favourite things: wonderful friends to work with, being Imogen Banks and Alice Bell; new friendships to develop . . . such as Holly Throsby, Alison Bell and Sarah Scheller; an Australian small rural town setting and a gripping mystery enhanced by a mobile phone-less nineties time period! I can’t wait until we get our collective teeth into it.”

Sally Riley, ABC’s Head of Drama, Comedy and Indigenous said “This is such an exciting opportunity for us to bring this beloved Australian story to our ABC audiences. The story and characters penned by Holly Throsby are vivid and unique, we can’t wait to see GOODWOOD bought to life by such a stellar team.”

Keli Lee, ABC Studios International’s Managing Director of International Content, Platforms and Talent said “We always love partnering with Sally Riley at  the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and we’re very excited to work with these amazing multi-talented women, Alice Bell, Claudia Karvan, Alison Bell, Sarah Scheller, and Imogen Banks to bring Holly Throsby’s book Goodwood to life as a TV series,” said Keli Lee, Managing Director, International Content, Platforms and Talent, ABC Studios International/ Disney Television Studios.”
