Foxtel will present a new adaption of the Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, starring Guy Pearce and Andy Serkis, screening over three nights from Monday, December 23 on FOX SHOWCASE or watch On Demand.

An original take on Dickens’s iconic ghost story by Steven Knight (Taboo, Peaky Blinders), A Christmas Carol is a haunting, hallucinatory, spine-tingling immersion into Scrooge’s dark night of the soul.

Misanthropic businessman Ebenezer Scrooge (Guy Pearce) refuses to treat Christmas as different to any other day, much to Bob Cratchit’s (Joe Alwyn) chagrin, as he is desperate to leave work and get home to his family on Christmas Eve. Scrooge’s dead former business partner Jacob Marley (Stephen Graham) begs for peace in his coffin. Although he has repented, the Spirits have news for him. He will linger in purgatory until Scrooge repents, something Marley knows he will never do.

Written and executive produced by Knight, and executive produced by Tom Hardy, Ridley Scott, Dean Baker, David W. Zucker and Kate Crowe, and produced by Julian Stevens. A Christmas Carol is produced by FX Productions in association with the BBC, Scott Free and Tom Hardy’s Hardy Son & Baker.

A Christmas Carol also features Charlotte Riley as Lottie/Ghost of Christmas Present, Vinette Robinson as Mary Cratchit, Jason Flemyng as Ghost of Christmas Future, Kayvan Novak as Ali Baba, Tiarna Williams as Belinda Cratchit, Lenny Rush as Tim Cratchit and Johnny Harris as Franklin Scrooge.

A Christmas Carol is the first in a series of adaptations of Dickens’ novels, commissioned by Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama, and Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, that will air in the next few years.  A Christmas Carol is also the latest collaboration between the two broadcasters (FX and BBC), who were also responsible for the acclaimed drama series Taboo.

A Christmas Carol,  screens over three nights from Monday, December 23, Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25 at 7:30pm AEDT on FOX SHOWCASE or watch On Demand.
