Fans will finally get to see the second season of Australian Spartan, when the sports entertainment series finally premieres next month on 7mate.
Seven commissioned Australian Spartan in 2017. The format was picked up by the network in a desperate move to combat the success of Ninja Warrior which had delivered record audiences for Nine earlier in the year.
Due to the significant costs of setting up the obstacle course in Brisbane, Seven made the decision to produce two seasons, back-to-back.
However, when the first season premiered in 2018, viewers were quick to reject the format. The finale of the first season was moved to the Easter non-ratings period.
Now after sitting on the shelf for two years, the second season will premiere Wednesday the 6th November at 7:30pm on 7mate.
Hosted by Edwina Bartholomew and Hamish McLachlan, the show begins with sixty teams consisting of three competitors each, with 20 teams each competing in three initial heats.
The top 5 teams from each of the heats (who have completed the course or have progressed the farthest if they had not) then repeat the same course in the semi final, resulting in a top 10 who take on each other in an extended course.
The top 2 teams then compete head to head for the grand prize on a special, shortened course.
