EXCLUSIVE: After yesterday’s announcement of the ABC securing select Free-To-Air broadcast rights for Australian Football, further details on just how it will work are starting to emerge.

On Thursday the 10th of October, Australia’s Socceroo team will play Nepal at Canberra’s GIO Stadium. The match is part of the World Cup Qualification process, meaning it will be must-watch viewing for Football fans.

Originally scheduled to kick-off at 7:30pm AEST, TV Blackbox can now confirm the game has been rescheduled for 8pm. The decision to move the Qualifier was made by the Asian Football Confederation, after a request from new broadcast partner, ABC.

It’s understood the ABC was keen to keep the match on its main channel, but was also unwilling to disrupt the loyal audience of its nightly current affairs program 7:30, hosted by Leigh Sales.

The decision to move the match means the ABC will now be able to broadcast the important game into NSW, VIC, TAS and ACT markets LIVE.

Due to the commencement of Daylight Saving and Australia’s various timezones, the match will still be broadcast on delay into QLD, SA, WA and NT.

The ABC has chosen not to utilise one of its broadcast multi-channels to provide a LIVE broadcast into these markets. The match will however be streamed LIVE nationally on iview.

The match will also be broadcast LIVE nationally via Fox Sports.
