After months of speculation Channel 7 has finally made a decision on who will take over as host of HOUSE RULES.

The hunt has been on for a replacement host after Joh Griggs told bosses at Seven she would not be continuing on the show, as she revealed in an Instagram post shortly after the conclusion of season 7 this year;

“I’ve got some news for you all. After a great deal of consideration, I recently sat down with the Network to ask to be allowed to step down as Host of House Rules. They have very graciously agreed for me to do that, which I’m incredibly appreciative of.”

As TV Blackbox reported at the time, Seven did not issue a statement and sources suggest it was because they were upset Griggs had decided to leave.

Just this week, Popular judge Wendy Moore announced she was leaving the show in a lengthy instagram post.

“I have loved every single moment and am really proud to have worked on a show that has literally changed lives and inspired us all to take on big, scary challenges” says Moore’s post

Like Griggs, Moore had been with the program since its inception but her ‘announcement’ came despite comments just two weeks earlier on the Mediaweek that she intended to continue with the show;

“I am still planning to continue with House Rules. So, that was one of the kind of things we talked about when I moved over (to Foxtel), so I’ll still continue doing that.”

In our story covering this news sources told TV Blackbox Moore’s departure is part of a refresh of all shows at the network as ordered by new CEO James Warburton. That refresh includes changes to judging line-ups and is particularly relevant to House Rules considering it under-performed in 2019.

Experienced executive Andrew Backwell is now overseeing the show and has ordered a complete shake-up of the show to drive more ratings in 2020. TV Blackbox understands a new production team sourced from My Kitchen Rules will be working behind the scenes on series 8.

TV Blackbox can exclusively reveal part of the refresh will include installing Jamie Durie as main host alongside Carolyn Burns-McCrave and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen. The announcement is expected to be made at Seven’s UPFRONTS event in October.

The appointment of Durie as host is a natural progression for the show. Durie joined the team in 2019 and is familiar to viewers. With production changes and new judges, Seven will be hoping they can lure back viewers who abandoned the show this year.
