After a lengthy wait for fans, Seven has today confirmed the renewal of the coverage of the National Football League.

Seven West Media’s agreement with the NFL delivers broadcast television rights on Channel 7 and 7mate.

Under the new agreement, Seven will broadcast two live games each week during the regular season and the NFL playoffs on 7mate, and will also broadcast the Super Bowl live on Channel 7.

The new agreement includes expanded digital rights for 7plus and 7NEWS.com.au that will include NFL highlights, VOD content and digital simulcast of Seven’s NFL broadcast.

Australian fans will also enjoy a selection of NFL programs on 7mate that take them inside both the action of the 2019/20 season and the game’s storied history.

A strong contingent of Aussie punters including Michael Dickson, Cameron Johnson and Mitch Wishnowsky are expected to feature in the NFL, along with key positional player Jordan Mailata, who has impressed in preseason. Ex-rugby league superstar Valentine Holmes is also looking to make his NFL dream a reality with the New York Jets’ practice squad.

Since Seven first became the FTA broadcaster ahead of the 2014/15 season, the FTA TV audience of NFL in Australia has grown nearly 55%.

Seven’s Head of Sport Saul Shtein commented,

“The biggest stage in American sport is the NFL and it throws up the biggest names and stories each and every year. We’re very proud to bring it to our viewers, alongside our coverage of the major summer and winters sports in Australia.”

Seven’s NFL coverage will commence on Monday, Sept 9 with coverage of the Jacksonville Jaguars vs the Kansas City Chiefs at 3am AEST. Followed by Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs the San Francisco 49ers at 6am AEST. Both matches will be broadcast on 7mate.

Last week, ESPN confirmed a new subscription broadcast deal which will see it provide live coverage of five matches per week via the Foxtel, Kayo and Fetch TV platforms.

The new deal will see the pay-tv channel broadcast more live matches than ever before. ESPN will air 110 live games including two games on Sunday afternoon, Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, and Thursday Night Football. However, some fans have been left disappointed after ESPN failed to secure RedZone coverage for the new season.

ESPN’s coverage will kicks off on Friday, September 6 at 10:15am AEST when the Green Bay Packers take on the Chicago Bears.

  1. They are making out like its a good deal within this article. In previous years channel seven also had the Sunday night game but this is now not the case. I would suspect the growth over the previous years to now diminish

  2. Howard, ESPN is showing the Sunday night game – it costs $6/month with a FetchTV subscription for their ‘Vibe’ package (assuming you have a decent internet connection). You also get two Sunday day games (different ones to 7Mate so far), plus Thursday and Monday night games.
