He has waged a controversial campaign to win the Gold Logie, and now the ABC’s biggest star is set to take over Wednesday nights.
Next year will see Tom Gleeson and his highly popular Hard Quiz program expand to a 40 week season.
Hard Quiz has been producing 20 episodes per season; the increased episode order will allow the show to air throughout the official ratings survey for the first time.
While it’s yet to be officially confirmed, Gleeson let the ‘cat out of the bag’ during an interview with Triple M’s Melbourne breakfast program.
“We are going to record another 40 (episodes) at the end of the year; it’s going to run all next year.” “We will finally be on all year round, which is great.”
A spokesperson for ABC declined to confirm or deny the increased episode order telling TV Blackbox,
“We’ll have further details on Hard Quiz later in the year.”
Hard Quiz is one of the most successful programs on the ABC at the moment, Wednesday night’s season premiere achieved an average national audience of 947,000. A move to airing the program throughout 2020 would provide the network with a much-needed ratings boost.
Gleeson is the first ABC to personality to win a Gold Logie in 40 years. His acerbic style and quick wit proved upsetting for some of his fellow nominees, but ABC viewers love him. Gleeson will also continue as a key cast member on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering. Both programs are produced by Thinkative TV for the ABC.
