Please note this post contains spoilers about the new series of MKR currently filming and set to air in 2020.

Channel 7 is set to pull every trick out of the hat for the new series of My Kitchen Rules which will be taking on Nine’s juggernaut Married at First Sight at the start of the 2020 television ratings year.

TV Blackbox can exclusively reveal at least two fan favourites will be returning in what could be an all-star cast.

Our spies witnessed shooting taking place at Coles Zetland over the weekend and were pleased to see 2015 finalists Jac and Shaz running around the store in front of a crew finding ingredients.

Look for ginger, oranges, black pudding and eggs to feature in their menu.

Jacqui Bakhash and Sharon Sellings, the cousins from Queensland’s Mt Isa, became fan favourites during season 6 in 2015. That series of the show averaged around 1.5 million viewers each night, a far cry from the 600k to 800k viewers it did this year. Seven will be hoping to reclaim some of those glory days by featuring fan favourites like Jac and Shaz.

In a series of exclusive stories TV Blackbox has already revealed Seven ditched plans for the 10 year anniversary back in early March. This was despite the network declaring at its annual AllFronts event in October 2018 a second series would run in 2019.

We also revealed MKR was undergoing a major overhaul — another element of our story Angus Ross , head of programming at Channel 7, has confirmed. Our understanding is Colin Fassnidge will have a much bigger role in the reworked format.

TV Blackbox also revealed shooting would be taking place from July until September with former Channel 9 executive Andrew Backwell overseeing the production.

  1. Just please get MKR back to the way it used to be! I couldn’t believe how badly it has gone downhill these last two years especially with the ridiculous ‘home visits’ where contestants cooked in what looked like AirbNB homes. Seeing ‘guests’ eating in bedrooms, garages, laundries etc, in these homes, was cringe worthy (I honestly expected to see a guest sitting on a toilet eating their meal!!) MKR used to be a great show to watch, not great cooking, but a fun show with interesting and likeable characters, not anymore. The contestants are mean, deceitful and downright bullies making the show a definite ‘must miss’ part of the week’s TV line up. We won’t be watching it next year (2020) unless there is a major change in the show and its line up. I cannot stand to sit back and watch the blatant bullying, nastiness and never-ending bickering with the constant and ridiculous ‘he said/she said’ drivel every episode, in what used to be a good show. Get out of the reality TV coma that TV has become and get back to the basics!! It’s supposed to be a ‘cooking show’ not a ‘soap opera’!!
