It’s one of the most anticipated series launching in the US this year and now a local TV network has picked up the Australian broadcast rights to the all-new BH90210
TV Blackbox can exclusively reveal Channel 10 will be airing the six-episode revival of the iconic 1990s hit that originally aired on the same network from 1990 – 2000.
The series will premiere on August 7 in the US and Channel 10 has confirmed it will air locally on Channel 10’s main channel in August/September.
Network 10 Head of Programming, Daniel Monaghan, told TV Blackbox:
“Beverly Hills 90210 was a cultural phenomenon on 10 when it aired in the 90’s and ever since, fans have pleaded to have the original cast members to return to the world’s most famous postcode. We are thrilled to have it back and it will air on 10 later this year.”
Reprising their roles will be Jason Priestley (Brandon Walsh), Shannen Doherty (Brenda Walsh) , Jennie Garth (Kelly Taylor), Ian Ziering (Steve Sanders), Gabrielle Carteris (Andrea Zuckerman), Brian Austin Green (David Silver) and Tori Spelling (Donna Martin).
Luke Perry had been in negotiations for a one-episode appearance before his untimely death in March.
The reboot is a twist on the original series with the actors playing heightened versions of themselves in a mockumentary about the making of a Beverly Hills 90210 reboot.
Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Shannen, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it’s time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running.
But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself. What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast – whom the whole world watched grow up together – attempts to continue from where they left off?
The series is a good fit for 10 with its focus on an under 50 demo and should serve as an interesting twist on an old favourite.
this is great news Dylan ( Luke Perry ) will be missed and Shannen Doherty(Brenda walsh ) is looking great after her cancer
