After a month of staged media ‘leaks’, NINE has now officially confirmed the cast for the new look AFL Footy Show.

Hawthorn tragic and comedian Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann, acclaimed sports journalist and commentator Neroli Meadows from Fox Footy, former AFL superstar and radio host Brendan Fevola, and Paralympian Dylan Alcott will head up the panel for Australia’s longest running live footy entertainment show in 2019.

Interesting, NINE has today confirmed to TV Blackbox that along with this new version of The Footy Show, the network still intends to produce a “few” primetime specials featuring original presenters Eddie McGuire and Sam Newman.

Lehmo will be the new-look program’s ringmaster. As a former panellist on 10’s much loved Before The Game, he has also presented football programming on ABC radio and last year hosted the coverage of the Invictus Games.

Lehmo will be joined in the hosting role by Neroli Meadows, a trusted and highly respected reporter in Aussie Rules circles. Meadows was also a cast member of  Before The Game, and has recently renegotiated her Foxtel contract allowing her to appear on both networks

Sitting alongside them will be Carlton goal-kicking legend and Fox-FM breakfast host Brendan Fevola. It’s no surprise to see Fevola continue his involvement with the show in 2019. He was considered one of the few bright-lights of the beleaguered program last year and is entering into the second half of a two-year contract with NINE.

Tennis star and radio presenter Dylan Alcott will also play a key role in the new show’s line-up. Alcott impressed NINE with his commentary work during the recent Australian Open tournament where he also won his fifth consecutive Australian Open quad wheelchair singles title. He also worked on last years Invictus Games coverage alongside Lehmo. The Invictus coverage was produced by Eddie McGuire’s production company JAM TV, who will also continue to produce the new look Footy Show for NINE.

Fresh from jungle adventures on 10, Shane Crawford returns to NINE in a new role which will see him visiting the local clubs and community heartlands.

Announcing the new line-up, host Lehmo said:

“The Footy Show is an institution and it’s a great honour to be taking the hosting chair. As a passionate footy fan, I’m itching for the season to start and can’t wait to work with this incredible lineup. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Guests for the first show will include Collingwood’s Mason Cox, Hawthorn player Shaun Burgoyne, NRL champion Billy Slater, 3-time Coleman Medallist Matthew Lloyd, and Superband ARC, comprising Powderfinger’s Darren Middleton, Jet’s Mark Wilson, You Am I’s Davey Lane and Spiderbait’s Kram.

TV Blackbox understands content creators Priceless Productions has been recruited to produce comedy skits for the new show.

With the AFL scheduling a minimum of eight Thursday night games in 2019, including the first five rounds of the season, plus NINE’s commitment to broadcasting this winter’s ASHES and ODI World Cup cricket tournaments, the new look Footy Show will spend much of the year in a Wednesday time-slot. Combined with stiff competition from SEVEN’s beloved The Front Bar, it’s going to be a tough ask for NINE to win back viewers.

THE AFL FOOTY SHOW – returns Wednesday, March 20, at 9.00pm on Nine and 9Now.
