What's New In Streaming For The Next Seven Days

Streaming Guide September 14 – September 20

Forever: Season 1 (Prime Video, September 14)

Created by Alan Yang (Parks and Recreation, Master of None), Forever is a dramedy series starring Saturday Night Live alumni Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph as a married couple (not to be confused with the CBS procedural starring Ioan Gruffudd, who plays an immortal medical examiner). Their happy marriage and routine are interrupted when June suggests to Oscar that they go on a ski trip, and the pair is forced to examine their relationship.

BoJack Horseman: Season 5 (Netflix, September 14)

Here is creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg’s description of season 5, which is brilliant:

“This season finds BoJack starring in a new TV show called Philbert, playing a character with disturbing parallels to BoJack’s real life, echoes that force BoJack to confront himself and his past in ways large and small, but the main thing that happens this season is Diane gets a haircut. We spent a lot of time figuring out the haircut – the style, the volume, the bounce, the sheen – and we’re really proud of the way it turned out. We think people are going to like this new season, and Diane’s new haircut!”

I could’ve tried to write something to put here, but I recognise perfection when I see it.

The Circus: Season 3, Episode 7 – Midseason Premiere (Stan, September 17)

Following a brief hiatus, the ground-breaking documentary series is back as America braces itself for the chaos that is the midterm elections. The first real public test for Donald Trump, the American people have the opportunity to show how they feel about the new President at the ballot box in November.

American Horror Story: Apocalypse: Episode 2 (Foxtel, September 20)

American Horror Story was ground-breaking. At the end of the first season, creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk announced that there would be a second season – but it would be a completely different story with some of the same actors. Several anthology series have followed, including Fargo, True Detective and American Crime Story (also by Ryan Murphy). In its eighth season, American Horror Story is doing something different again: a cross-over of season one’s Murder House and season three’s Coven. The stellar cast includes regulars Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, as well as actors who have appeared in previous seasons: Jessica Lange, Adina Porter, Kathy Bates, and many more.

Ku’Damm 56 & Ku’Damm 59 (SBS OnDemand, September 20)

Set in Berlin in 1956 at the traditional dance school ‘Galant’, worlds collide and the struggle between prudishness and emancipation is carried out. Caterina Schöllack, owner of the school and mother of three eligible daughters, tries to integrate herself and her family into a hierarchical structured society. Two of her daughters abide by her wishes, but Monika – the middle daughter – rejects her given path. While at this time a woman’s place was at home serving her husband, the women of this generation were searching for a new female identity and were inspired by the burgeoning demand for equal rights.
