What's New In Streaming For The Next Seven Days

Streaming Guide August 31 – September 6

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Season 1 (Prime Video, August 31)

When CIA analyst Jack Ryan (John Krasinski, The Office) stumbles upon a suspicious series of bank transfers, his search for answers pulls him from the safety of his desk job and catapults him into a deadly game of cat and mouse throughout Europe and the Middle East, alongside his boss James Greer (The Wire’s Wendell Pierce in a show-stealing role). Krasinski is the fifth actor to play Jack Ryan onscreen following Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine.

The Royals: Seasons 1-4 (Stan, August 31)

Set in modern-day England, The Royals follows the lives of a fictional British Royal family. When King Simon (Vincent Regan) announces that he’s considering abolishing the monarchy, the manipulative Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley) will do whatever it takes to remain in power.

The Comedy Lineup: Part 2 (Netflix, August 31)

Quick wit takes on a whole new meaning when a group of fiercely funny emerging comics take the mic for a series of 15-minute stand-up sets, filmed in front of an intimate crowd at Atlanta’s historic Terminal West. The eclectic mix of comedians bring fresh takes on life’s issues, big and small, in a series of solo sets. Part 2 includes Aisling Bea, Emma Willman, Janelle James, Josh Johnson, JR De Guzman, Kate Willett, Matteo Lane and Max Silvestri.

Adventure Time: Season 9, Episode 13 – Series Finale (Stan, September 4)

After almost 300 episodes and far too many bacon pancakes (that was in the copy – we all know there’s no such thing as too many bacon pancakes), get ready for the epic series finale of Adventure Time! It’s Ooo like you’ve never seen it before… and it all ends with the Ultimate Adventure. All plot details are being kept secret, but Stan is fast-tracking this episode from the United States so you don’t have to worry about being spoiled.

The Tale (Foxtel, September 4)

The Tale is a dramatic film directed and written by Jennifer Fox, who is portrayed by Laura Dern (Jurassic Park, Enlightened), and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The film starts when Jennifer’s mother calls after finding an essay that she wrote when she was 13 about her relationship at the time. Jennifer thinks her mother is overreacting because her boyfriend was older than her, but upon re-reading the essay, questions the nature of the relationship and whether or not she was a victim of sexual abuse.

Nude: Season 1 (SBS On Demand, September 6)

Every time I tell someone the premise of this new French dramedy – that clothing has been outlawed in France for security reasons – they respond, “Even in winter?” I haven’t gotten that far in the show, but it’s intriguing enough to keep me interested. Tensions are kindled when the law’s creator, Jean Lavin, is found murdered – and fully dressed. For those who prefer a more traditional model of viewing, the show will air Thursdays on SBS VICELAND.
