What's New In Streaming For The Next Seven Days

Streaming Guide April 20-26

Aggretsuko: Season 1 (Netflix, April 20)

Retsuko is a 25-year-old red panda who is an office associate in the accounting department of a trading company in Tokyo. All she wants to do is to do her job and get through her day, but when frustrations reach a boiling point, she vents through death metal.

Frances Ha (Stan, April 23)

If you enjoyed Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut Lady Bird, you should see Frances Ha, which she co-wrote and starred in. Frances is a dancer in her mid-twenties living with her best friend Sophie. When Sophie moves out, Frances flounders, looking for personal and professional fulfillment but finding dead ends. Frances Ha is a beautiful and realistic portrayal of female friendship, as well as a coming-of-age story about a young woman.

Westworld: Season 2, Episode 1 (Foxtel Now, April 23)

Westworld was in the news last week because creates Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy promised a breakdown of everything that happened in season 2, then gave the internet a video of star Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores) singing Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” And an adorable dog.

Season 2 deals with the aftermath of the hosts’ uprising at the end of the first season, and a series of questions about many of the hosts and humans who co-exist and clash in Westworld (and different theme parks with similar concepts) will be revealed. Returning cast members include Thandie Newton, Tessa Thompson, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright and James Marsden.

Trollied: Season 7 (Stan, April 25)

Hilarious jokes at bargain price in Aisle 7! The British sitcom about employees in a fictional supermarket named Valco goes from strength to strength in its seventh season. With a trolley full of gags and classic Brit pathos, the sitcom shows no signs of reaching it’s sell-by date.

The Handmaid’s Tale: Season 2, Eps 1 & 2 (SBS On Demand, April 26)

The Emmy-award winning drama series is back for a second season, and SBS is fast tracking new episodes weekly. The show has moved beyond the pages of Margaret Atwood’s novel, following Offred (Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men) after she was shoved into a black van at the end of the first season. The second season is shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from Gilead, the theocracy that was formerly the United States. The world of the Handmaids will expand in season two, with new cast members Marissa Tomei, Clea DuVall, and Bradley Whitford (Get Out, The West Wing) as a new Commander.
