Bluey – An Outback Christmas

A Queensland produced television Christmas animation special will have its world television debut on a national free-to-air channel this Friday.

An Outback Christmas features the story of Bluey, an Australian Blue Heeler who needs to get home to his parents house to celebrate Christmas Day. He meets a digeridoo obsessed emu, a wisecracking echidna and a kangaroo who just wants air conditioning and lettuce leaves. He also discovers an international secret about the jolly man in the red suit.

The 30 minute primetime special also features a narration from Australian game show royalty John Deeks, Ilai Swindells (Foxtel’s Open Slather), Brisbane radio announcers Louise Poole and Daniel Thomas and singer/performer Mitch Tambo.

Producer/Writer/Director Shannon Morris said it’s time Australia produced it’s own traditional Christmas specials.

“In the USA, Christmas specials like Little Drummer Boy and A Charlie Brown Christmas were produced in the 60’s and have aired every Christmas since to huge television numbers. Why can’t we do the same here?”

“An Outback Christmas features a unique Australian story which I hope is embraced by audiences.”

“The special itself was heaps of fun to write and produce so I hope all Australians will enjoy Bluey’s adventure”

It’s hoped a spin-off series can be produced in 2019.

  1. Okay, so this looks great. But why call it "Bluey"? I know there’s room in this world for more than one blue heeler based TV show, but both within a few months of one another? I’m pretty sure it’s going to cause a lot of confusion.
