Ahead of the summer of cricket, Foxtel has today delivered a massive win for sports fans by launching a beta trial of its highly anticipated new sports streaming service Kayo.

Kayo Sports allows Australian viewers access to Foxtel sports content for the first time without the need to subscribe to additional non-sports channels.

Described by Foxtel CEO, Patrick Delany as the “Netflix of Sport”, Kayo is promising “a paradise for sports fans” featuring thousands of hours of live sport and on demand shows available any time, plus spoiler free catch ups, interactive stats, alerts, a split screen option which allows sports-fans to keep an eye on up to four events at once, plus a playback speed option which allows you to quickly watch replays of sports events and shows

The new service includes content from Fox Sports, ESPN and beIN Sports and provides live and on-demand access to over 50 sports including the full summer of Australian Cricket, AFL, NRL, A-League, NBA, NBL, Supercars, Formula 1, MotoGP, NFL, NBA, MLB, Super-Rugby, Wimbledon, La-Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Major golf tournaments including The Masters, World Surfing Championships and more.

Kayo also features an impressive library of sports-themed programs including titles from ESPN’s acclaimed documentaries series.

Foxtel has launched Kayo in Beta today, and is expected to fully launch in-time for the First Cricket Test match in December. Foxtel is understood to be using the beta period to test load capacity, and hopefully avoid the streaming issues that plagued Optus earlier this year with its World Cup coverage.

The service has launched with two pricing options, a basic $25 service for 2 screens of access, or a $35 premium plan which allows access on 3 screens at the same time. Both plans offer content in High Definition, but don’t expect 4K to be added any time soon, that’s being reserved for Foxtel’s premium customers.

Customers can experiment with the service via a 14-day free trial.

Until now, the only streaming option to access this content was via Foxtel Now which recently increased its minimum sports pricing from $39 to $54. (Pop/Lifestyle $25 + Sport $29).

During the beta-launch, Kayo Sports is only available via the website on PC, Mac, and Mobile devices using Chrome, Firefox, or Safari web browsers. Good news is the service supports Chromecast at launch.

The website is promising apps will be coming soon to support IOS and Android mobile devices, as well as the 4th generation AppleTV and TelstraTV set-top boxes.

Customers can sign up for the free trial of the Kayo Sports beta at https://kayosports.com.au

  1. Is the voucher box on their website just for their promotional freebies or are they going to offer the option of purchasing gift vouchers like you can get for Netflix from the supermarket?
