What's New In Streaming For The Next Seven Days

Streaming Guide May 18 – May 24

13 Reasons Why: Season 2 (Netflix, May 18)

13 Reasons Why caused some controversy last year but started an important discussion about the role of television in its portrayal of mental health issues, including suicide. In preparation for season two, Netflix has prepared resources for key audiences. In Australia, Netflix has been collaborating with headspace, the National Youth Mental Health Foundation. The Affair: Season 3 (Stan, May 21)

Season 3 picks up after Noah’s shocking admission of guilt at the murder trial of Scott Lockhart. Noah (Dominic West, The Wire) attempts to restart his life, but the damage wrought by his past has made him a ghost of his former self. Meanwhile Alison’s (Ruth Wilson, Luther) past continues to rear its ugly head.

Terrace House: Opening New Doors: Part 2 (Netflix, May 22)

For those of us who were a little lukewarm on Aloha State, Terrace House: Opening New Doors is a return to form (and Aloha State was still good!). We’ve had several confrontations between the housemates over Yuudai’s lack of commitment to anything, and Part 1 ended with Yuudai telling his friends he was thinking of leaving. Meanwhile, there’s a lovely romance blossoming between Tsubasa and Shion that has been an absolute joy to watch, and I can’t wait to see where it goes next.

Logan Lucky (Stan, May 22)

Logan Lucky was Steven Soderbergh’s (Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven) return to filmmaking after a few years away, and hardly anyone saw this gem while it was in cinemas last year. Soderbergh’s return combines the heist film with comedy, and the result is fantastic. Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) loses his job at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, so he plans a heist on one of the biggest race days of the year as payback. He assembles a team for the heist consisting of Adam Driver, Daniel Craig and Riley Keough, among others, and they’re about as different from Ocean’s Eleven it’s possible to be.

For the People: Season 1, Episode 4 (Foxtel Now, May 24)

Scandal finished about a month ago, and For the People is here for anyone who needs a Shonda Rhimes fix. Set in the Southern District of New York Federal Court, For the People follows the public defenders and Assistant United States Attorneys as they argue some of the highest-stakes cases in the country, and try to manage their personal lives.
