Fan favourite Natasha Exelby is returning to Television after an extended break, with confirmation she will join the 10 News First team in Melbourne.

The popular newsreader will take on the role of ‘Senior Journalist’ in the Melbourne newsroom. Exelby previously worked at 10 from 2008 – 2013 where she was best remembered for hosting the late-night news bulletin.

Since then she has worked freelanced for a number of outlets including SEVEN, SBS, ABC, and a stint in Turkey. Exelby also appeared on this year’s season of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.

10’s Executive Editor of News, Mark Gillies confirmed the appointment in a note to staff saying,

Natasha Exelby

“Now it’s time for Natasha to get back to journalism…. the career she began in her home state of Queensland. I understand she will be missed there; she’s had to convince her loving Grandmother that her move to Melbourne is the right one.

“We know it is.”

While having always been popular with viewers, Natasha Exelby has had a somewhat chequered history in the Australian media

Video of a distracted, then shocked Exelby went viral in 2017, the incident initially generated plenty of humorous responses from other media presenters whom have been caught in similar situations. However, things turned ugly after the ABC made the decision to suspend the presenter from further news reading duties.

In 2014 Exelby was one of the original trio recruited to host 10’s dismal breakfast effort Wake Up. Her role on that program lasted just 17 days on-air before being sacked by then EP Adam Boland. At the time 10 was keen to promise Exelby would remain part of the 10 News family, however she never returned on-air.

in 2013 Exelby was forced to apologise after laughing throughout a news report concerning an Indian building collapse in which 10 people were killed including 5 children.
