Foxtel is delighted to announce a sixth season of the much-loved Australian period drama A PLACE TO CALL HOME has been commissioned and will begin filming in early 2018.

Foxtel’s Executive Director of Television, Brian Walsh said ”Foxtel is very proud of A PLACE TO CALL HOME, the series is beautifully written, produced, directed and portrayed by some of Australia’s best creative talent. It’s a very special Australian story crafted by series creator Bevan Lee and our producing partners Seven Studios. There are still some stories involving our central characters that are waiting to be told and I think Season 6 will build on the incredible success that we are enjoying with the current season on air,” he said.

A PLACE TO CALL HOME is brought to life by the incredibly talented cast including Award winning actresses Marta Dusseldorp and Noni Hazlehurst, along with Brett Climo, Abby Earl, Craig Hall, Sara Wiseman, Jenni Baird, Tim Draxl, Frankie J Holden, Deborah Kennedy, Arianwen Parkes-Lockwood and David Berry.

The TV Week Logie Award Winning Most Outstanding Drama continues to win local ratings, while also gathering international fans and critical acclaim across 120 countries worldwide.

Season 5 was awarded an Australian Production Design Guild award for Costume Design (Lisa Meagher) and an AACTA Award for Best Production Design in Television (Fiona Donovan).

The series also won a 2017 American Public Television Award for Program Excellence and is the number one program on Acorn (US streaming service).

The New York Times told readers to “watch, for a period melodrama that delivers nonstop intrigue and cliff-hangers along with pointed social critique.”

The Hollywood Reporter said: “Superbly written, and acted, this is Downton Abbey down under but less soapy and substantially darker.”

While Indie Wire gave high praise “An unmarried, progressive, Jewish woman struggling to square wartime experience with post-war convention, Sarah emerges as a sort of Aussie Betty Friedan, sound the themes of privacy, equality, and freedom that lend “A Place to Call Home” its bristling intelligence”.

 

Watch A PLACE TO CALL HOME season five Sundays at 7.30pm on showcase and can be streamed on Foxtel Now.

Season six will screen in 2018 only on Foxtel.
