HBO has released a new trailer promoting the third and final season of drama series The Leftovers which was filmed in Victoria.
The drama which will be broadcast fast-tracked from the US on Foxtel’s Showcase channel was created by Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, and is based on Perrotta’s best-selling novel of the same name, The Leftovers is a drama that explores a world in shock and the lives that are changed forever, when 140 million people inexplicably vanish.
A range of unique Melbourne and regional locations will set the scene for the final instalment of the series. The production created more than 250 local jobs and injecting around $20 million into Victoria’s economy.
Broadcast across the US in 2015, the second season was the third-most watched drama, attracting around 6 million viewers every episode.
Speaking with EW, showrunner Damon Lindelof explained why he picked Australia for the final season.
“Australia is the end of the world geographically and our show is about the end-of-the-world emotionally,” “And there’s also something about Australian cinema — it’s primal, ancient and spiritual — that felt like it fit The Leftovers, whether it’s Mad Max movies or Walkabout, or Waking Fright or Peter Weir movies.”
Season 3 of The Leftovers will premiere April 20th in Australia. The series will air just hours after the US on Foxtel’s showcase channel.
