MTV Brand New allows the public to vote for their favourite signed, emerging Aussie or Kiwi act, whilst MTV gives the artists the extra support and on-air exposure they need to make a mark in the industry. The competition follows on from the continued success of MTV Brand New in the UK, which put artists such as Sam Smith, Florence & the Machine, Adele, Jessie J, Charli XCX, James Bay, Years & Years and most recently Anne-Marie into the international spotlight.

Music fans can visit mtv.com.au/brandnew to view interviews with the artists, as well as their own unique covers of their musical inspirations, before casting their vote for their favourite emerging star, either online or via Twitter using the hashtag #MTVbrandnew followed by the artists name. The competing artists will battle it out over ten weeks beginning August8, with voting closing October 16. The winner will be announced on-air on MTV, MTV Music and MTV Dance in Australia, and MTV and MTV Music in New Zealand. Nominee spotlight interviews will also be featured online and on-air across the MTV channels over the duration of the competition.

Last year witnessed MTV Brand New Australia & New Zealand boy band winners At Sunset rack in an incredible 200,000 votes from the public. Coming in second was ‘Firestone’ and ‘Start Again’ singer songwriter Conrad Sewell, who went on to win Song of Year at the ARIA Music Awards of 2015 and was also nominated for Best Pop Release and Breakthrough Artist. Taking out third place was New Zealand singer songwriter Thomston, who was since nominated as a top 20 finalist for the Apra Silver Scroll awards,  released two critically acclaimed EP’s and has received more than 10 million plays on Spotify.

This year for the first time, MTV is offering a $10,000 donation to the winning artists charity of choice.

VOTING WILL GO LIVE MONDAY 8th AUGUST AT: mtv.com.au/brandnew
