In a week full of everyone expressing opinions, it was no surprise that Sam Newman would weigh in with his own contribution.
Newman declared the issue was being fuelled by an ongoing rivalry between radio stations 3AW, which employees Caroline Wilson, and McGuire’s employer Triple M. Newman stated what he believed was a double standard for Wilson to only be upset with the Triple M team when similar comments had been made on 3AW.
Apparently Sam Newman called me a piece of shit on the Footy Show tonight. Nice to see lessons being learned in footy.

He then went on to take a swipe at media columnists that have expressed opinions about the story
“If you search for a cause to fit a narrative you are pedalling, eventually you will convince yourself you stumbled onto something as most of the cowardly excrement have.
You know why Newman still has a job? Because he does the dirty work. He says the things to put us in our places

Those excrement who have weighed into this I would like to mention their names. As no-one reads, watches or listens to them because they’re in second-tier media outlets, I won’t bother. But if you spray a piece of excrement with perfume or put after-shave on a piece of excrement at the end of the day it’s still a piece of excrement,”
He finished by delivering one last barb at Wilson.
“The jig’s up Caro, honestly and truly. You are becoming an embarrassment. Even if you were under water you’d still be talking.”
His comments will certainly give new life to the controversy just as might have hoped it was coming to an end. Newman has been reprimanded by Nine Network management in the past for failing to respect women, so it will be interesting to see if management takes action regarding his latest comments.
Co-host Rebecca Maddern delivered her own editorial on the Triple M radio segment, stating:
“it did make me feel uncomfortable as a woman,”
However she went on to add that the broadcasters were,
“good men” “These men made a mistake, they acknowledged they made a mistake and they apologised,” “We now need to move forward in a positive way”.
