Famed adventurer and survivalist, Bear Grylls gives President Barack Obama a crash course in survival techniques as they trek across the Alaskan wilderness in the highly anticipated television event, Running Wild with Bear Grylls and President Barack Obama, premiering exclusively on Discovery Channel next Friday 18 December at 7.30pm (AEDT), just hours after it airs in the US.

In this unprecedented special, Bear Grylls and President Obama travel across the rugged terrain of Alaska on a journey neither of them will forget. No subject is off limits as Obama candidly chats about family and fatherhood. The effects of climate change are also on the agenda as the two visit the melting Exit Glacier; discussing new energy resources and how we can maintain a clean environment.

During their adventure, which President Obama has called, “One of the best days of my presidency,” Grylls teaches him how to utilise the environment around them in order to survive, with the pair feasting on an Alaskan salmon that has been partially eaten by a bear.

In the series Running Wild with Bear Grylls, celebrities travel to the most remote locations in the US and around the world for the journey of a lifetime as Bear Grylls teaches them to survive in some of the most unforgiving wildernesses. Season 2 will premiere on Discovery Channel in February 2016 and guests include Kate Winslet, Kate Hudson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and more.

“Bear Grylls is a figure who is synonymous with Discovery Channel,” said Mandy Pattinson, EVP & GM Discovery Networks Asia Pacific – Australia, New Zealand & Pacific Islands. “Whilst we’ve seen him take on some of the toughest terrain on Earth over the years, showcasing his survival skills with one of the world’s most powerful leaders in tow is going to be a whole new challenge. We’re absolutely delighted to not only bring this special event exclusively to Foxtel subscribers, but within 24 hours of its premiere in the United States.”
