Fox Sports is predicted to broadcast more Rugby League than ever before in 2015 with a deal to broadcast the English Super League expected to be announce shortly.
This website understands Fox Sports is negotiating for a maximum of three games per week of the competition.
A Fox Sports spokesperson yesterday refused to confirm the deal stating, “we don’t comment on rights.”
Australian league fans will have increased interest in the UK competition this year with NRL ‘bad boy’ Todd Carney now playing for the Catalan Dragons. The English Super League season is scheduled to commence on the 6th of February.
The deal would be a blow for rival Eurosport whom have previously broadcast the competition into this country. Eurosport recently upgraded its Foxtel channel to HD in an effort to gain audience share. A spokesperson for Eurosport yesterday confirmed the channel would no longer be broadcasting Super League matches stating, “we have not received confirmation regarding the renewal of the English Super League rights in Australia and assume we do not have the rights to broadcast it in this market this year.”
