As Foxtel joins the world in farewelling The Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert, the channel has confirmed it will bring replacement Larry Wilmore to weeknights next year on The Comedy Channel with The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.

The Colbert Report final episode will air on The Comedy Channel Friday December 19, 2014. Stephen Colbert has promised to bury the ‘Colbert’ character he has been playing since 2005 before making the big move to CBS to replace David Letterman next year.

The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore will premiere weeknights from Tuesday January 20 at 7pm in 2015 Express from the US.

Emmy Award-winning Wilmore brings a bevy of comedic experience to the table, including writing and producing credits on shows such as cult classics The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, In Living Color, and The Jamie Foxx Show. In addition to acting in various films and TV shows, Wilmore has been a guest on The Daily Show for 18 years, providing serious yet hilarious commentary on the black experience in America.

The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore is more than just a comedic take on news and pop culture. Taking a holistic approach to presenting new comic talent, the show features an interactive panel, special guests, and a unique platform to reflect diverse and underrepresented voices.

Wilmore commented, “The original title ‘The Minority Report With Larry Wilmore,’ became “complicated” when Fox announced in August that it was remaking its 2002 Steven Spielberg-Tom Cruise film Minority Report as a TV series. “The last thing you want is brand confusion,” continued Wilmore, “It was never intended to be a show only about minorities. It’s a show about underdogs, and that happens in a lot of different forms, whether it’s race, gender, or whatever.”
