Seven’s AFL commentators Dennis Cometti and Tom Harley were last night recognised at the Australian Football Media Association awards for an outstanding year of commentary.
For a record 10th time Dennis Cometti has taken out the award for the Most Outstanding TV caller in AFL broadcasting.
An AFMA life member and a former Alf Brown trophy winner, Dennis’ entertaining and accurate commentary along with his famous ‘Cometti-isms’ ensured he more than met the award criteria of clarity, colour, flair and use of the language to marry words with pictures.
Cometti recently confirmed he plans to retire from commentary when his contract expires in 2016.
Seven’s expert match analyst Tom Harley also took out his first award for the AFMA’s Most Outstanding TV Special Commentator.
A highly respected dual premiership captain with Geelong, Tom was rewarded for his high quality of analysis, incisiveness and clarity of thought throughout the 2014 AFL season.
Saul Shtein, Seven’s Head of Sport, said: “This is a terrific acknowledgement for Dennis and Tom whose commentary and analysis are world class. But it’s a team sport for broadcasters, too, and these awards also reflect the skill and dedication of Seven’s entire AFL department which delivered exceptional match coverage throughout 2014.”
