It was a challenging start to the program for the hosts of The Project as they were informed just moments before going to air that the main computer system that drives the show had crashed.

The shows hosts Charlie Pickering, Carrie Bickmore, Peter Helliar and Fifi Box were forced to pad out the opening of the show unable to do normal segments such as news headlines.

An interview with Wonderland star Ben Mingay, which normally would have been at the end of the show, was brought forward to the second segment. The technical difficulties lasted for more than 20 minutes

It needs to be said the cast did a great job dealing with the meltdown. Comedians Pickering and Helliar particularly enjoying having extra time to improvise. Charlie Pickering recently returned to The Project for a month long guest appearance to help bring stability back to the show.

150 staff have recently been retrenched from Ten, many of these people departing from backroom operations divisions. A significant number of staff departed the network last week at the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games coverage.

A spokesperson for the Ten Network declined to comment on tonight’s technical difficulties.
