Network Ten has today confirmed Masterchef Australia will return in 2015 for its seventh season.

While no longer the ratings powerhouse it once was, Masterchef Australia has been providing Ten with its most consistent ratings base of 2014 with an average of 850,000 viewers and climbing above 1 Million viewers last Sunday.

In 2014 Masterchef has refocused on the cooking rather than the tears and is now only doing one season per year rather than producing the kids/celebrity/professional spin offs of the past.

“We are really pleased that our audience has re-embraced MasterChef Australia,” Ten program chief Beverley McGarvey told News Limited.

“We are all very proud of the quality of the show this season and look forward to the audience building from this extremely promising start.

“MasterChef Australia is a very important brand and we are just starting to work on the 2015 season now.”

While its yet to be officially confirmed, The Biggest Loser most likely will not return after a disastrous 2014. Speaking to investors early last month Ten CEO Hamish McLennan said.

“Part of the (ratings) problem has been ageing program franchises,” adding Ten would refocus on “fresh formats that can be produced locally at competitive prices”

However with Ten now in the midst of a financial crisis and looking to make cuts to all sectors of the network its increasingly challenging for them to invest in bold new programming.
